Week 1:  Truly Heartening.

Hello everyone!  On behalf of myself and Robert, I want to say a massive "THANK YOU" to everyone who has supported our project!  With the first week down, we're (amazingly) already at 69% funded from 98 backers!  That's over $5000 in our first WEEK!  I'm truly stunned by the amount of support we've so far received from people, known and unknown, and its generous support like this that really brings it all home for indie creators like us.

The 4-weeks left to go, its now time for Robert and I to really dig in and do the hard yards.  As I see it, that 69% is from a lot of people we probably know.  Going forward, we now need to reach out to a broader group of people to get the news out.  We really believe that this book isn't just going to be a beautiful work of art on its own, but tells an important story of learning to appreciate and value the wild world around us.  We hope that so long as we can get our project in front of people, they will see the value of what this story is about.  Sharing and saying a few supporting words about this project with friends on social media is the best way for this book to reach more people.

 Some changes...

After a week of seeing what was and WASN'T working for backers, I decided to make some changes in the hopes of making some of our tiers more attractive.  Now, the 'EXCLUSIVE ART PRINT' Tier has been dropped to $55.  Its a great deal to get the graphic novel, bookplate, book mark, AND and an exclusive art print by one of our featured artists, only for $55.

Second, I reduced the price for the "BACKGROUND CHARACTER" tier from $200 to $175.  See yourself forever illustrated in this fine book, BOTH in this exclusive Kickstarter printing AND in the regular printing when we send it off to Source Point Press!  A small price to pay for fame and immortality.

Highlighted Projects...

To help share the love with our fellow indie comic creators, I want to highlight a few other great projects currently running on Kickstarter.  First is The Breakfast Bunch: The Collected Edition by Ryan Little.  The Breakfast Bunch is a high fantasy adventure story... all about CEREAL MAGIC.  Yes, BREAKFAST cereal magic.  But don't take my word, check it out for yourself.  The artwork is truly impressive and the story and characters look uniquely interesting and fun.  Its great to find a fantasy adventure that is light-hearted and easy fun, and matched with refreshingly simple but gorgeous artwork.  Check it out here ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/monsteroftheweek1/the-breakfast-bunch-the-collected-edition?ref=user_menu)

Last but not least is another fantastic and fun story by fellow Australia indie-comic heavyweight, Ben Slabak.  I've know Ben from back when I FIRST started making comics here in OZ, and he's always been a friendly and enthusiastic supporter of his fellow creatives and comics in general.  Over the last few years he's produced a litany of fantastic stories, translated into multiple languages, and worked with other creators from around the world.  One of his newest projects is "Mr. Beaver, VOL I", written by Pablo Verdugo Munoz, a Chilean illustrator and writer from Santiago who has teamed up with Ben to publish this story.  The world's most powerful crime organization - "The Twelve" - has managed to evade justice for far too long and in desperation, the police reach out to the one individual who just might be able to turn things around. Enter special agent Mr. Beaver.

A fun, action packed, manga-styled story that's parts "Lethal Weapon" and parts "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".  Check it out here ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/benslabak/mr-beaver-vol-1?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=Mr.%20Beaver )

That's all the news for now.  I hope everyone is well and staying safe, where ever you are!  And as always, THANK YOU!!!

A strong start and a coveted prize!

DAY 1 = AWESOME!

Hello everyone!

Thank you all SO MUCH for helping to support this project!  This is my second Kickstarter project, and I think so far its getting off to a good start.  With all the work Robert and I have put into preparing for this event, I'm very happy to see so many people have turned up on Day 1 to show their support.

Its still a loooong road to go, but fortunately, this project has also received a welcome GIFT from Kickstarter.  We were recently awarded the coveted "PROJECTS WE LOVE" badge, which means this project will be more highly featured across Kickstarter's page and with other projects.  Hopefully this will translate into more backers for this book.

If anyone has any questions or things to suggest, please feel free to message me and I'll see what we can do.  In the mean time, something that would REALLY help us out (beyond the MASSIVE help you have already provided) is to simply share our project with others.  We will be running promotions for the rest of the month, but one thing that works BEST above all else is simply having good people say a few good words on our behalf.

Lastly, I'd like to highlight another Kickstarter project that a fellow Australia creator is also running for his comic, "Maurice and the Metal" by Aaron Sammut.  Maurice & The Metal is an urban fiction comic about a kid who has super strength whenever he listens to heavy metal - the heavier the metal the stronger he gets - while heavy music gives him strength, other genres of music take it away.

He is a slacker in a go-nowhere band until all this craziness is forced upon him by his walkman, which has been possessed by the spirit of a Black Sabbath roadie who acts as his guide against those that despise heavy metal.

Personally, I LOVE this comic.  I think Aaron is a terrific writer and comic producer, and this concept really captures a lot about being a teen (or at least being a teen in the late 80's).  For full disclosure, I was the 1st backer of his project AND went full tilt for one of the awesome shirts he had designed just for his campaign.  Highly recommended.

Thanks again everyone!
